"My successful entry to ISTD, an information booklet design, incorporating an experimental format. The format of this piece was created to reflect the content, with its pages growing in scale. The design was created around, and inspired by the events of one day, the 4th August 2011 and the death of Mark Duggan, which many believe sparked the rioting across the United Kingdom. Photograph (which was featured by multiple new outlets) by Amy Weston." - D&AD (2010)
Okay, so i'm starting to get obsessed with looking through the portfolios of work available on the D&AD website, but i just think that the talent is incredible! The creative freedom students have when working on projects allow some really unique outcomes to be showcased on this website, making it a really useful resource when looking for ideas and inspiration. Most universities will have a membership with D&AD, allowing students to have access to their archives for free, and I definitely recommend those included take advantage of this opportunity while it's there!
Here is another project that i came across that i find particularly interesting. The topic of this brochure i feel is quite serious and something that not everyone would take the time to read, but the way the information has been thoughtfully presented is hard to ignore. The striking image and colour palette used, along with the unusual design of the pages provides a really intriguing way of providing such information that when presented in a boring manner may well be ignored.
I am really interested in editorial design and I just love this layout and book design. I think for future projects this design would be good to consider if, for example, I was to create a brochure that had different sections, as the different sized pages would make it easy to show headings, allowing the user to easily navigate to the section that is of interest to them.
