Sabrina Ward Harrison

Sabrina Ward Harrison is another artist i came across at the beginning of my A2 level Fine Art course back in 2010. We were introduced to her at the beginning of the year and told to research her as part of the contextual research for our upcoming project. Again, i found myself particularly drawn to her work as i really love the use of mixed media, in particular her use of writing and hand rendered typography.

D&AD Talent - Portfolios: Kelcey Braine - ISTD 2012 It Happened on this Day

"My successful entry to ISTD, an information booklet design, incorporating an experimental format. The format of this piece was created to reflect the content, with its pages growing in scale. The design was created around, and inspired by the events of one day, the 4th August 2011 and the death of Mark Duggan, which many believe sparked the rioting across the United Kingdom. Photograph (which was featured by multiple new outlets) by Amy Weston." - D&AD (2010)

D&AD Talent - Portfolios: Sin Yee Lau - Promoting Malaysia

"A paper craft project which i did for my major assignment, on promoting my very own country, Malaysia. I challenge myself to use only flat papers, to create something pop up and 3D with self made textures. Choosing the right colors and the compositions, as well as the lighting are crucial for giving the right depth and shadows to the paper crafts.
The outcomes are two paper craft posters, one for culture whereas one for delicacies of Malaysia. The posters are also suitable for an interactive website page in Malaysia's Tourism Board where viewers can click on the imagery to obtain more information regarding on it."

A Humument

First published in 1970 followed by four revised editions in 1986, 1998, 2004 and 2012, "A Humument" by Tom Phillips is definitely one of the most unique paperbacks ever created. Why? Because this story has been hand picked by Phillips from an existing late 1800s novel by W H Mallock - "A Human Document" - by quite literally choosing his words from the pages to produce a new tale.

The Social Network

Facebook began as "Facemash" back in 2003, strictly for Harvard users. Today, is it the world's most widely used social networking site with over 1.2 billion active users. In 2010, the American drama "The Social Network" was released, based on the site, which became the basis of this fun and engaging kinetic type piece.

A Lesson On Typography

Animation is something I have always been fascinated by but never really indulged in as I have never worked with any motion graphic software and wouldn't know where to start. "A Lesson on Typography" is a brilliant example of kinetic type, a form of animation, that I love and find inspires me to challenge myself and try to achieve something that I would normally shy away from.
