"'Sheen' is a historical celebration of the South West London suburb, featuring details and iconography to depict its illustrious past."[1]
Behance is great website to browse through when looking for inspiration, and that last time I visited it I came across this beautiful typography piece.
This design is showcased in a stunning photoshoot, followed by text that begins: "Sheen's history is somewhat complicated, mostly due to it's uncertain boundaries and long history of ever-changing municipal governance. It is a place of great historical importance, most significantly to a long succession of ruling monarchs, dating back to Henry I."[1]
The text then goes on to detail a number of historical facts about Sheen, with corresponding numbers on an image of the finished design to point out where these facts have been depicted in the artwork.
I simply love this piece. I am passionate about typography anyway, which is how I came across this project, but I just love the simplicity of using just a black pen, combined with the intricacy of the design. At a glance this bespoke piece oozed high value because of the time and effort that must have gone in creating it, but after reading the extra information and discovering the historical facts that are visually hidden within the design make it all the more precious, especially to the area and it's people. I would definitely appreciate having artwork like this to hang on my wall!
