It's Nice That

"Founded in 2007, It's Nice That is a publishing platform that encompasses several different online, print and event offerings as part of its mission of championing creativity across the art and design world." - It's Nice That (2014)

I first of It's Nice That about a year ago and I have been following them on Instagram and Twitter for some time, but I never really understood what they were all about until I heard the Editor, James Cartwright, speak in the first lecture of this year's Curated By... series at university.

So the company started back in 2007 when the director, Will Hudson, was a student in Brighton University started a blog in response to a brief that asked him to put something into the world to make people feel better about themselves. Originally the blog was a simple platform for him to post work from creatives all over the world. Seven years later and it has become a "publishing platform that encompasses several different online, print and events offerings as part of its mission of championing creativity across the art and design world." - It's Nice That (2014)

I found this very inspiring as I have been trying to keep up with blog for over a year now and while I am aware that people are reading my posts I still feel a little lost in the blogosphere and can't determine whether people are actually interested in what I am writing about. The idea behind this blog is similar to that of It's Nice That - I wanted to create a blog where I could put all of the things that I love or find inspiring, reflect on them and also share them with the world. Listening to this talk reminded me that I should concentrate on posting for myself and creating quality content about what I love and find inspiring because this is what has made It's Nice That so successful in the first place.

They started just as a blog, but from that have developed a range of platforms that have allowed them to create a large network of creatives that they can collaborate with. Their portfolio now includes interviews with highly respected creatives and projects with big brands that prove that it is all about getting your name out there and making sure that you are constantly connecting and expanding your network within the art and design world. This talk motivated me to work on my social media presence and continue to network with creatives ready for when I graduate and go into industry next year.

As I mentioned before It's Nice That now have a number of different platforms that they work on that include:

Printed Pages

A quarterly magazine that is all about depth, discover and long haul content. It focuses on meeting people, humanising them and engaging with them.

The Annual

Printed at the end of every year, containing a collection of the best projects from that year.
